A Guide to Poker Betting Glossary of Terms
The betting round in poker is what makes the game more exciting and breathtaking. Each poker player is on the verge of making a hand play decision that can result to either losing or winning.
In poker betting, there are different terms used that are only unique to the game of poker. A thorough understanding of the poker terms is a prerequisite to ensure better comprehension to the different poker terminologies used when playing the game of poker.
This is especially essential when making a bet in order to help a player make knowledgeable wagering decisions. The following are common betting terms used in poker betting:
Betting - the manner of placing a wager within the established rules of the game.
Call - the player will place a wager that is equal the amount of the bet placed by the previous player.
Check - the player will not place any betting amount on the pot but remains on the game.
Fold - the players with a losing hand will choose to stay out of the game and therefore signifies they are no longer interested to participate further on the betting process. The player who folds needs to place their cards on the table in a face down position.
Raise - the player who raises a hand is required to make a bet that is higher than the one made by the previous bettor. Other players are then required to either make a raise which involves a higher amount of bet than the one made by the player or to call from which the next players will need to bet an equal amount raised by the player.
Fixed Limit - this involves a restricted wager that is within the pre-arranged amount of bet allowed on the game.
Spread Limit - this type of betting limit is similar as the fixed limit but with a better offer of a more flexible means of betting that is within the determined bet limits.
No Limit - there is no limitation as to the amount of bet that a player makes when they bet, call or raise.
Ante - is the amount that every player needs to contribute on the pot before any round of playing poker commences.
Blinds - these are the amount of bet that a player needs to make prior to being dealt with their cards. It is called blinds since the players are unable to know the value of cards that will be dealt to them when making their bets.
